Who am I?

I am

Kay Nellz have been a performing artist since the age of 5. Although he was born with a speech impediment, he could read, sing and rap without impediment and thus a passion for performing was born. Honing his talents over the years, by middle school he was performing at local talent shows in his hometown of Annapolis Maryland. Surrounded by all the trappings of “every ghetto USA” Kay Nellz was able to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds in pursuit of a career as a rapper, poet and entertainer. By the time he was in high school, his family had moved to Atlanta where he would be runner up the V103 Annual Youth Poetry Contest in 2006 ultimately winning it all in 2007. This opportunity would open doors for him that he would never imagine, landing him on stage at the Historic Apollo Theater in Harlem NY by 2010.

In 2012 he would unite with some high school classmates (Tu!, Ultra, and Joey Kostello) to form a collective called “The Wreck Shit Club”. A journey that would take them all over the underground Hip Hop scene in Atlanta, being a regular at the legendary “Department Store” on Edgewood Ave. From A3C, to SXSW, and everything in between, it was during this time The Wreck Shit Club would cut their teeth in the music business, creating several albums and multiple Ep’s all while creating a bond that led to the creation of Wreckless World Media Group.

Kay Nellz first venture into the podcast space would also take place from 2010-2012 on “Blog Talk Radio” with his cousin Tone. But in 2020 he would return to the podcast mic with a brand that he calls Icons and Ideas. Just as he would embark on this new creative space to hold court, the pandemic struck and uncertainty and lack of resources caused for the idea to be shelved, temporarily. In 2024 He would reboot the podcast as Icons and Ideas presents “The World According to Kay Nellz” a new name and fresh perspective giving social commentary to current events in everything from politics to pop culture.

In 2020, Kay Nellz released his debut solo project under the Wreckless World Music imprint titled Now or Never. A full length LP Executive Produced by Tu! with assisted production from Ultra and KTGotBeats. Kay Nellz would put the full range of his artistic ability on display with witty lyricism, intricate word play and introspective subject matter. This album is the foundation upon which he wanted to build his solo career path outside of The Wreck Shit Club Collective. He would follow that project up with an EP in 2021 titled “I Mean Every Word I Say.” 4 songs inspired by a promotion campaign and video shoot he did with an Entertainment Group who was launching in the Atlanta area.

Whether it is Poetry, Writing, Music, Podcasting, or being a Label Co-Founder, nothing is more important than authentic artistic expression. Kay Nellz is blazing a path in a multifaceted creative world where content is before character, sucker shit is before substance, and real talent is taking a back seat to mindless popularity. Nonetheless, the beauty of art, is there is enough room for everybody to win, and this is his journey to victory.
